Baby's First Snow Day
Today was an auspicious day in a baby Tilly's life: HER FIRST SNOW DAY!
"Hi look mom there's white stuff on the ground BUT mostly I need a snack" |
Tilly was foaled out in Florida and spent the first year of her life there before her first family bought her and moved her to Georgia. She was there until right before her second birthday when I brought her home - safe to say, babyhorse has never seen snow before last night (okay fine maybe last week's flurry but I wasn't home so it doesn't count).
The weather here has been atrocious, like so much of the US right now. Wicked cold (y'all, yesterday it didn't even hit 30 degrees. I know other states are in the negatives but this is NC and these temps don't happen during the day), wind, and we were supposed to have a snowmageddon situation last week (I was on vacation in the Bahamas, so fun even though it didn't get above 68) but apparently we got maybe a single snowflake. Yesterday, it wasn't even supposed to snow, but I walked out of the vet with my littlest dog and OMG YAY snow!
Snow dogs last night |
To my midwestern and northeast friends: please feel free to laugh and make fun. I grew up in NJ where we did largely have 'real winter', but in the eight years I've lived in the south, we've barely had any snow and I think its fun when we get a little. Mostly because it's gone same day and usually warms up pretty quickly.
I do a small barn a few mornings a week not far from where Tilly is boarded, so I had a secret plan to stop by and see her on my way home this morning. She didn't care about the snow at all and didn't understand why I was running around and squealing at how cute she was when she trotted and followed me because a Tilly trotting in the snow is super cute. She just wanted the snacks, obviously.
While they're not any works of art, I was so happy to pop by and capture some pictures of Tilly. She's so hard to get good pictures of because she follows me around and is totally in my pocket - something we're slowly working on but to be fair, I DID have tasty snacks in my pocket.
Give us snacks |
I hung out with her and Zena until I couldn't feel my fingers or face and then I headed home. The roads were stupid icy so it was slow going, snow isn't the issue here but the ice is, but I made it home safe and got to bring hot water to my chickens and play with the pups in the snow, all before 9am when I had to log in to work.
Snow almost gone by 2pm thanks to some sunshine. |
In other news, my baby dog turned SIX on Monday! Time flies and I simply cannot believe she's not two years old.
I have several other posts written that I just have to add pictures to - one of them is from November, oops. Hope everyone is staying warm!
It's pretty crazy to see this weather hit the south this year. I'm glad Tilly got to enjoy some snow for the first time. She's adorable (and I relate to not being able to get pictures of in-your-pocket baby horse.) Baby dog is also beyond adorable <3
